Dear Friend,
Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!
South Carolina Digs Deeper
This week, I joined leaders from around the state to celebrate the deepening of the Charleston Harbor, a project that has taken years of effort from all levels of government in South Carolina. With the project completed, Charleston is now home to the deepest port on the East Coast!
This development increases opportunities for all South Carolinians, and it keeps our state on the path of being a competitive, economic powerhouse!
Celebrating Excellence
This week, the Senate unanimously passed my resolution with Senators Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) to celebrate the Senate Black Legislative Staff Caucus’ (SBLSC) 45th anniversary.
The mission of the Senate Black Legislative Staff Caucus is rooted in diversifying Capitol Hill—bringing people from all walks of life to help our nation’s leaders better understand who we are serving.

Raising Awareness
Sickle cell disease continues to be a prevalent blood disorder affecting many in the Black community today. This disease affects approximately 100,000 individuals throughout our nation, with 1,000 babies inheriting this disease each year.
I, along with Senator Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and 12 of our Senate colleagues, introduced a resolution designating Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Month. It passed unanimously on Thursday, helping to raise awareness and support efforts to eradicate this terrible disease.

Spilling the #SCSweetTea with Gingerbread
This week, I am spilling the #SCSweetTea on the sweet victory of the Frahler sisters, who won the 30th annual National Gingerbread House Competition.
There were over 200 entries, and to no surprise, our fellow South Carolinians rose to the top! Congratulations, Ella and Maisy, on a job well done!
