Note from the ACDIS Editor

First-time attendee’s guide

by Linnea Archibald

This is my first ACDIS conference. Since my first day on the job back in January, everyone at the office told me I was in for a crazy ride. Over the months, I’ve sorted through 10 years of conference pictures, attended meetings, and spoken to several conference presenters. I think I know what I’m in for next week. My plane leaves Sunday and I can’t wait to get there!

For us newbies, the conference can be on the overwhelming side. Luckily, though, the ACDIS team has 10 years of experience and a number of tips to help us prepare for learning and lots of fun. Here are 10 tips from the team.

ACDIS Picks

News: AHA voices opposition to latest ACA repeal efforts
News: Trauma centers available for children
Q&A: Documenting sepsis and/or severe sepsis with septic shock
News: Coding Clinic offers guidance on Impella coding

Membership Update

The offices will be closed through May 8-12 for the ACDIS Conference

Due to the demands of the conference, the ACDIS offices will be closed through May 8-12. Should you have any questions regarding a missing username/password, website access, or membership expiration dates, please contact customer service at customerservice@hcpro.com or call 800-650-6787. We’ll see you in Las Vegas!

Conference update: Interested in learning more about online training?

Our eLearning Product Manager Chelsea Brookes will be in the ACDIS/HCPro booth at the 10th annual ACDIS conference next week to talk about our range of online boot camps and online training courses for CDI professionals. Stop by to talk with Chelsea and enter for a chance to win a free online boot camp of your choice. Visit the booth on Wednesday, May 10, or Thursday, May 11, at 3 p.m.

Journal excerpt: Foray into CDI for value-based purchasing

About 41% of CDI programs currently review medical records for quality improvement items, according to an online ACDIS membership poll. Although CMS implemented the Value-Based Purchasing (VBP) reimbursement model as required by the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2011, many CDI programs have only recently started investigating how their daily efforts positively affect VBP components.

Last week on the ACDIS Blog

If you don’t follow the ACDIS Blog religiously, now is the time to subscribe. The ACDIS team has been posting conference related tips and tricks in addition to the usual litany of guest posts, book experts, and Q&As. To follow along yourself, visit to the Blog and subscribe using the box on the right hand side of the screen. To help you catch up on last week’s happenings, here’s a list of the posts from, April 24-May 3.

Local Chapter updates: Local connections at the national conference

The 10th annual ACDIS conference, May 9-12, in Las Vegas, Nevada, is less than a week away. While the event offers a great opportunity to connect with CDI professionals from around the country, you can also spend some time catching up with your local CDI comrades.
