It wouldn't be a week in the Saints' 2021 without some odd turn of events. On Wednesday, the big news was that Saints head coach Sean Payton has been temporarily sidelined from team activities as a preemptive measure.

Reporters did not learn the news until they showed up for practice on Wednesday and noticed Payton’s conspicuous absence. Shortly thereafter, team officials apprised the local media of Payton’s situation in a short press briefing. The good news: Payton is not sick and has tested negative for COVID-19. The bad news: His status remains uncertain.
