WEATHER

🌧️ After a wet night, the rain continues pretty steadily Tuesday for central and southern Minnesota. Showers will gradually diminish and become more scattered Wednesday.
🍃 Gusty winds will continue. East winds will blow at 15 to 25 mph with gusts of 30 to 40 mph, but it should lighten up heading into Wednesday.
🔥 Northern Minnesota will be dry and windy, raising critical fire weather concerns. A red flag warning goes into effect from noon through 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Minnesota lawmakers fail to finish budget on time, head toward special session

Less than 10 percent of the Minnesota budget fell into place prior to the end of the Legislature’s 2025 session, forcing lawmakers into an overtime period with plenty to sort out before they can complete their must-do task.

🔥 Minnesota wildfire updates: Crews continue to battle fires near Brimson, Hoyt Lakes. The Camp House fire near Brimson is now 40 percent contained. And for the first time fire officials have announced some containment of the larger Jenkins Creek Fire.
🏛️ A 'giving spirit': Lakota elder honored at American Indian Day on the Hill. Hundreds of people gathered Monday at the Capitol in St. Paul for American Indian Day on the Hill. The Minnesota Indian Affairs Council honored Lakota elder Jerry Dearly for his long career in education and his dedication to community.

🚓 Chief O’Hara names two civilians to top MPD leadership posts. Ganesha Martin, who held senior roles at the Baltimore Police Department, is leading the Constitutional Policing Bureau, and attorney Ayodele Famodu is the first non-officer to head the Internal Affairs Bureau.
✈️ Don’t be alarmed by smoke, fire at MSP Airport this week as firefighters conduct training. First responders will train using a propane gas system simulating conditions they might encounter during an emergency. Officials said the exercise will not affect aircraft operations.
📹 Watch: Half a million Minnesotans will have their records sealed thanks to ‘Clean Slate Law.’ The Clean Slate Act automatically seals criminal records for low-level offenses, with the hope of giving an estimated 500,000 Minnesotans a “fresh start” accessing jobs and housing.
🗳️ Voting rights advocates tout success of new law in getting formerly incarcerated people to the polls. Thousands of newly eligible voters in Minnesota cast ballots in the 2024 election. About 20 percent of people who were previously barred from voting went to the polls.
🏀 Timberwolves fan locked out of buying Oklahoma City Thunder tickets through Ticketmaster. Timberwolves fan Catrell Maclin said he’s been to almost every road game during the playoffs since last year, but he was prevented from buying tickets to their games against the Thunder.
