A magical, musical Christmas at the Royal Albert Hall

Struggling to get into the festive spirit this year? Royal Albert Hall to the rescue! The historic venue has been the home of Christmas in London for 150 years, and this year's celebrations are set to be just as magical as ever.

This December, the Royal Albert Hall is proud to present a socially-distanced and streamed season of spectacularly festive events. From an awe-inspiring performance of Handel's Messiah to storytime with Father Christmas, there's sledge-loads of yuletide joy to discover.

We've rounded up the best of the bunch below, but you can peruse the full programme by clicking the blue button. Don't forget to book your tickets while they last!

Big Band Christmas

Enter the festive season with a swing in your step with a little help from Guy Barker and his big band. Expect a cracking mix of jazz classics, hidden gems and Christmas oddities, with performances from special guests, including Strictly's Tommy Blaize, jazz/funk singer Vanessa Haynes, and clarinettist Adrian Cox, to name but a few.

Meet The Man In Red

It wouldn't be Christmas without visiting Santa Claus. The man in red can be found in the enchanting winter grotto on the porch of the Royal Albert Hall, 5-18 December. Bring your little ones along for storytime - this year's heartwarming yuletide yarn is Chris Van Allsburg's The Polar Express.

A Time-Honoured Tradition

Hallelujah! It's almost time for the Royal Albert Hall's annual performance of Handel's sublime oratorio, Messiah  which has been performed an incredible 524 times since it first appeared on the venue's programme back in 1871. This year's version features the Philharmonia Chorus and special guest singers accompanied by the inimitable Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Christmas Carols Galore

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is also part of the Royal Albert Hall's spectacular series of carol concerts. First, they accompany the Royal Choral Society for their annual gala concert, before joining the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain for six days of carols. With accompaniment from the Voice of Jupiter (that's the venue's 9,999 pipe organ, FYI), this is Christmas carolling done right.

An Orchestral Adventure

Uh oh! Looks like Father Christmas lost his map on a practice run of his delivery route! Luckily, Albert's Orchestra is here to return it to him... with the help of your little elves that is. My Christmas Orchestral Adventure is a family-friendly musical extravaganza featuring snow, skating, and even a sleigh-ride — all within the Royal Albert Hall's magnificent auditorium.
