El Salvador To Issue 'Bitcoin Bond' On The Liquid Bitcoin SideChain By Namcios El Salvador's President, Nayib Bukele, announced that the country will issue $1 billion in bonds on Blockstream's Liquid Network, a federated Bitcoin sidechain. The proceedings of the bond will be split in $500 million for purchasing bitcoin, the native asset, and $500 million for investment on their volcanic mining infrastructure and rigs. The move seeks to attract capital and investors to the country, as the bonds have a 6.5% yield and a fast-tracked citizenship. On another note, this is sets a reminder for the famous piece of "Speculative Attack" from Nakamoto institute, which references Thiers Law, stating good money drives out bad money. We have already seen a Tech, and a Mining company issue debt to purchase bitcoin, but now it is the first time we see a nation state, to issue debt of an infinite currency, for a limited one, bitcoin. "This is a historic milestone and only the beginning of our search to achieve global inclusivity for finance - the same way that Bitcoin has created global inclusivity for money" - Samson Mow |

In the weekly piece of "The Center Cannot Hold", the author compares bitcoin to Qualia, a form of secret, or instances of subjective experience. Qualia can be explained by trying to describe color or pain, although the person issuing the description is telling a truth, there is no way to validate another party can experience it the same way. The relation of the piece revolves on a comparison of objectivity with subjectivity, given that the Bitcoin network is objectively measured in reference to its amount of users or valiadtion of transactions, there is still an overlap that can be found with Bitcoin and Qualia, which is relates more to its understanding. According to the author, the four properties of Qualia defined by the cognitive scientist and philosopher Daniel Dennet, could be applied to bitcoin in the following way: 1) Bitcoin cannot be communicated or understood outside of direct experience, thus they are ineffable. 2) Bitcoin carry the property of being non-relational. The protocol does not change depending on the user or the user’s relationship to other things, thus Bitcoin are intrinsic. 3) Bitcoin are interoperable. Spending Bitcoin outside of the public ledger is systematically impossible, thus they are public. 4) Bitcoin are directly apprehensible in consciousness. To receive a Bitcoin is to know all there is to know about that Bitcoin, and to recognize that you are its owner. |
