Watch local shops do their thing
The year 2020 will go down in history alongside ‘during the Black Death’ and ‘just before the Great Fire of London’ as one of the worst times to have opened an independent business in the capital. We feel for anyone struggling through this particularly awful time and have thusly teamed up with Instagram to launch Experience:LDN. This two-day virtual festival, taking place today and tomorrow on our Insta , will feature tons of local businesses showcasing everything from naan-cooking demos and cocktail-making tutorials to garden tours and cultural exhibitions.

Friday, 8pm Explore the queer history of the Rio Cinema
The Rio Cinema is at risk of closure, so now is the time to examine what the Dalston landmark means to us. Zoom in for a cinematic stroll down memory lane as Fringe! Film Fest delves into the radical queer history of the Rio in the 1980s. Find out how a ‘penniless bunch of dreamers’ managed to build the UK’s first community-run cinema out of a rotting 1970s porn palace.

Make posh food on your lonesome
We’ve spent much of lockdown begging our favourite restaurants to teach us how to recreate their signature dishes. And while it’s allegedly ‘literally impossible’ to rustle up a Dishoom ruby curry using chicken nuggets, mayonnaise and a three-year-old jar of Loyd Grossman’s tomato and basil sauce, you’ll be amazed what five-star delights are in fact eminently possible. We’ve collected the best ones here.
