Mary Todd: A New American Musical
Mark your calendars for Mary Todd: A New American Musical to be performed at the Library on Sunday, November 4, at 2pm in the River Room. Presented by The Bluegrass Opera and Music Theatre in honor of Mary Todd Lincoln's 200th birthday, this performance will feature a cast of five professional actors from around the U.S. This will be a great event for children grades 4 and up through adults.

The story follows the future First Lady as she struggles to navigate the world of the American South as a teenager during the 1830s. From a complicated relationship with her cold stepmother and well-meaning father to her warm and adventurous relationship with central Kentucky's African American community, Mary is never a traditional "young lady." Developed in consultation with historians and experts, and supported by grants from the HSG Foundation and LexArts, Mary Todd is not just about one woman; it's also about the coming-of-age of Kentucky – just as Mary is faced with deciding what sort of person she will be, our commonwealth and our country face a similar crossroads. The show also deals prominently with issues of race and gender, which are as relevant today as they were back then. Please register to save your seat!
