More than 20,000 Australian jobs in the telecoms and financial services sector have been sent offshore over the past 12 months, according to a leading global recruitment agency, while up to70 per cent of large Australian companies are looking to implement cost-cutting measures including lay-offs and salary cuts.

The figures were revealed in research that also found companies were increasingly turning to AI and other technologies to help cut costs and replace roles and tasks.

Amazon has unveiled its “next generation” of artificial intelligence and robot-powered warehouses that it says will slash delivery times – and the cost to process those deliveries – by 25 per cent.

Wimbledon has broken with a tradition dating back 147 years and abolished line judges in favour of artificial intelligence.

Next year’s championships will be the first in the tournament’s history not to feature the uniformed men and women around the edges of courts who shout “fault” and “out”.
