A backpacker near Ghost Ranch on the Continental Divide Trail

Hi Friends!

The season of new outdoor gear releases is upon us, so we’ve been busy testing new stuff and updating our Gear Guides with our top picks of 2023. In these guides, we highlight our trail-tested favorites from tons of categories including Best Backpacking Tents, Best Backpacking Backpacks, and Best Hiking Shoes for Men / Women.

We know many of you are starting to make big plans for spring and summer hiking, and we’re just as stoked as you are! While you get your gear sorted and wait for the warm weather to return, it’s the perfect time to brush up on trail skills, get some physical training in, and prepare for the dreaded hordes of mosquitoes.

As always, thanks for following, and make sure to hit us up on social media.

Best Backpacking Chairs
We rounded up the best sit-pad and chair options on the market and tested them thoroughly (by kicking back in beautiful places) to make it easy for you to choose an option that’s right for you.

Aquamira Drops Review
Aquamira Drops are an easy and ultralight method of water purification. They don’t leave a weird taste in your water like other chemical treatments, and they’re more affordable per treated liter.

Best Trekking Poles
Trekking poles can add a lot of stability and comfort to your hike. We’ve used dozens of different poles over thousands of miles, and we’re confident in our ability to help you find just what you need.

10 Campfire Safety Tips
7.5 million acres of forest are impacted by wildfires each year. And almost 85% of wildfires are caused by humans. But with a little prep and attentiveness, we can all protect our natural spaces.

GEAR PICK OF THE WEEK
ZPacks Duplex & Triplex

The ZPacks Duplex and Triplex are among our all-time favorites from our lists of the Best Backpacking Tents and Best Ultralight Tents for thru-hikers or anyone looking to cut pack weight.

These tents provide an excellent amount of interior space and weather protection while being freakishly lightweight. The DCF material makes these tents pretty expensive, but it’s also why they’re so light, fully waterproof, durable, and don’t sag when wet.

We like to use the Zpacks carbon fiber poles (sold separately) with our Plex for convenience, but you can save even more weight by using trekking poles as the tent structure. We’re partial to the Duplex for solo hikes and the Triplex for more interior space when hiking with a partner. Check out our full review of the Duplex here and the Triplex here.
