More visitors and new exhibitions highlight a season of change at SAAM. |

In her latest letter, Stephanie Stebich, The Margaret and Terry Stent Director of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, looks at spring as a time to share new exhibitions and exciting programs with SAAM's visitors. And there are a lot of visitors! Based on the recently published annual survey of attendance at art museums by The Art Newspaper, SAAM has the distinction of being the fourth most visited art museum in the United States with more than 1.4 million visitors walking through SAAM's doors. Stebich invites readers to learn more about the current exhibitions Fighters for Freedom: William H. Johnson Picturing Justice and Pattern and Paradox: The Quilts of Amish Women, while looking ahead to Subversive, Skilled, Sublime: Fiber Art by Women opening at the Renwick Gallery on May 31. |
