Simply Canning

Hi Do I hope you are feeling blessed today!

Recently I saw on facebook that some friends of mine who live across the country are already picking cherries. So jealous here. This is what my garden looked like last week. And I'm pretty sure cherries will be scarce this season. :(

Crazy Colorado Spring strikes again. We usually are safe after Mother's Day but .... ah well. I covered everything and only lost one tomato plant and it seems like one of my grapevines might not spring back. We'll see. It melted in a day and we are back on track.

For those of you way ahead of me…. Here are some cherry resources for you.

Starting with the basics, we have your canned cherries or cherry pie filling for a delicious taste of early summer sweetness anytime you want.

BTW making cherry pie filling from just canned cherries works spectacular too. I use Tapioca as the thickener. Directions are on the box! Super easy and then your jars are more versatile.

Two more options for preserving cherries are to freeze them or you could make a batch of cherry jam.

The Pits... the one downside to preserving cherries... you've got to get rid of the pits. I have searched high and low for one that actually works and I finally found it. I took a video of my boys using this cherry pitter that fits on a mason jar. You can watch my sons in action it and learn more here.

A giveaway at the JarBox.

Are you familiar with JarBoxes? I love them for traveling and carrying jars along. My review is here. But if you think you might like to try them out, go to jarbox.com. They are having a giveaway. Click on the link on their home page. An e-mail pops up. All you need to do is add your name and hit send. You will enter to win a choice of pint or quart size jars.

Happy Spring!

PS. My weather is clearing up and I’ll be planting this week! Busy busy busy.

Have a Great Day.
