Cabin Spacey, a fundraising project by a German firm is making headlines this week as the project quite literally takes urban living and design to another level…The project is a clever response to the growing shortage of city real estate in Berlin, dreamed up by Simon Becker and head architect Adreads Raunch. The German pair, in addition to their team, has created a fundraising campaign to build sustainable and environmentally friendly apartments on top of rooftops. According to their website, Berlin alone has 55,000 unused rooftops that aren’t suitable for regular developments, therefore, continue to go unused. With minimal, contemporary and flexible designs Cabin Spacey attempts to exploit and tap into what has previously been ignored. The properties consist of an outer hull, and interior supply unit that features just one bed, bathroom, and kitchenette. The smallest unit is just over 20 square meters, and can supposedly accommodate up to two persons. The properties are supposedly easy to install, and to hook up to existing rooftop utilities and infrastructure. To read more about Cabin Spacey, click here

Today’s distressed property of the week is set in the stunning Kurrajong Heights, New South Wales, approximately 80 kilometres from Sydney CBD. The property was first placed on the market back in February this year with an original price of $1,250,000 to $1,350,000. Earlier this month the vendor slashed this price down to just $1,050,000, a total reduction of $200,000!!!

The vendor says that the property is a 'classic' homestead circa 1945 that will ‘steal your heart’ with its art deco flare and original ornate decorations. The property consists of a two bedroom home, cottage and 11.7 acres of land including single lock up garage, two stables, spring fed dams, a horse arena, and fence paddocks.

The inside of the property features traditional high ceilings, large timber windows with white trim, and timber floorboards. Like any good home, the kitchen is in great condition with original skylight, stainless steel bench tops, Miele cook-top and stove and plenty of storage space. The listing states that the bathroom has ‘retained its original character’, however, this look isn’t necessarily for everyone, and there is room for some minor surface renovations to give both bathrooms a more modern look. The main house and cottage are surrounded by leafy and well maintained gardens that are both attractive and assist in screening noises from the nearby roads.
