Currency markets are still quiet

SENS may hav e been busy yesterday but the same can't be said for currencies, with a fairly dull trading day that saw some action in late afternoon trade as the dollar showed resilience. TreasuryONE wonders whether this is due to low liquidity creeping into the market, position squaring ahead of the Christmas break and just a general reprieve for the dollar, which has been under pressure for some time now.

The rand traded below R17.20 in afternoon trade. With local banks only expected to trade until midday today, an uneventful session is expected.
