These two projects ignite friendly competition and explore some principles of physics: The Spinning Chair Project In this project, watch your child marvel at how they can spin a chair they’re sitting in faster or slower depending on how they move their arms. This is an excellent example of Newton’s first law of motion — the law of inertia — and how it applies to the conservation of angular momentum. The Reaction Time Science Project In this project, you and your child test your reaction times by dropping a meter stick and measuring how far it falls before each person catches it. This helps both of you learn about the earth’s gravitational acceleration and air resistance while studying how each person’s reaction time differs.
