Hey there,
Welcome to another Science Saturday!
Here’s a fun fact: Pure water doesn’t conduct electricity, but…
Minerals, like salt, that dissolve in water can! We call these minerals electrolytes.
This means that saltwater can actually be used as an energy source. Our Build a Saltwater Circuit project is a fun way for you and your child to explore this scientific concept.
With this project, your child gains hands-on experience crafting a basic circuit to make a lightbulb light up and a buzzer buzz.
Plus, they discover how electric currents flow from the negative anode to the positive cathode and explore how changing the water’s salt concentration impacts its ability to conduct electricity.
This experiment gives your child a chance to learn about renewable energy sources and discover how they work.
Don’t forget to snap photos of your saltwater circuit experiments and share them with us on Instagram @homesciencetools – we'd love to feature your young scientist’s circuit! |
