| Good evening everyone, If you want to know what is really going on at the heart of any crisis, it’s best to ask the people in the frontline. While we hear plenty from politicians at the moment, medical personnel are the people who are having to deal with the brunt end of the Covid pandemic. Today, one of the region’s key health bosses has written for us about his experiences so far and his fears for the future. It makes for tough reading. But Dr Andrew Furber, Regional Director at Public Health England and Regional Director of Public Health NHS, remains positive - because he still believes the future is in our own hands so we can affect the outcome and help to ensure the NHS can continue to treat everyone who needs help. His medical colleagues have much more information about the virus and how they can treat those most seriously affected than they did back in March when this was a completely new condition. But he wants us all to take responsibility for our actions to, as he puts it, ‘stop history repeating itself.’ It’s a sobering thought and one we all need to heed.
