Periods of rain will continue Friday afternoon and evening in much of southern and central Minnesota and western Wisconsin. An isolated thunderstorm is also possible. Northeastern and north-central Minnesota will have a chance of scattered showers.

Some showers could linger into Saturday morning from southeastern Minnesota into western Wisconsin. South-central Minnesota and the southeastern part of the Twin Cities metro area could see a passing Saturday morning shower.

Isanti man sentenced to life in prison for 1993 murder of woman
A Hennepin County judge on Friday sentenced Jerry Westrom, 56, to life in prison for a nearly 30-year-old cold case killing. Westrom was convicted in late August of premeditated murder in the 1993 killing of 35-year-old Jeanne Ann Childs, who was found stabbed 65 times in a Minneapolis apartment.

Paisley Park turns 35
Thirty-five years ago this month, Prince's complex of unusual, plain white buildings opened in Chanhassen. It had 65,000 square feet of recording, film and video space with a sound stage that was more than 12,000 square feet. For decades, it was a hot spot for musicians and celebrities. Minnesota author Neal Karlen, who was a regular at Paisley Park during those party days, talked with host Cathy Wurzer.
 
St. Cloud mosque break-in prompts calls for increased security
Police were called to the Islamic Center of St. Cloud early Thursday morning. An employee discovered that intruders had broken a door and entered the mosque, then caused additional damage inside, including breaking ceiling tiles and ransacking an office. It marks the fifth time this year a mosque in Minnesota has been targeted, the most in the state's history, said Jaylani Hussein, executive director of CAIR-Minnesota.
Vikings to open season with anticipated challenging game against Packers
We've entered the shoulder season between summer and winter sports. There are a lot of teams playing and a lot to talk about on the sports scene, including the Vikings home opener against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. Host Cathy Wurzer talked with resident sports pros Wally Langfellow and Eric Nelson about the season.
