When Pope Francis made his apostolic journey to Nagasaki, Japan last November, it was only the second visit by a Pope to this country, and the first in nearly 40 years. Nagasaki Archbishop Mitsuaki Takami had petitioned the Pope both in person and through several letters to make the visit. On a special website set up for the visit, the Archbishop noted that that the Pope had referenced “the Christian age of Japan.”
