December 17 is the feast day of St. Hildegard of Bingen, a fascinating mystic and polymath. As an abbess, artist, author, composer, pharmacist, poet, theologian, and more, she could be called a true Renaissance woman—if she hadn't lived hundreds of years before the Renaissance!
At her canonization, Hildegard was named a Doctor of the Church, one of only four women to hold the title. You can learn more about her and the other three female Doctors of the Church in the book Accidental Theologians.
