‘Strictly a safety thing’: Think of St. Patrick’s Day parades in these parts and you’re likely to think of the cabbages you’ll bring home. (And maybe that awful green beer…) Cabbages will still be on the menu at the St. Pat’s Day parade that rolls through Old Metry – but, for the sake of safety, some other veggies and fruits are now banned, Doug MacCash reports.
Recall lawsuit settlement: The lawyers involved in a suit challenging the number of registered voters in New Orleans – and thus, the number of signatures the mayoral recall petition ultimately will require – said this morning a settlement is near. Mayor LaToya Cantrell, meanwhile, offered one of her lengthiest statements yet on the recall effort. She's not a fan, Matt Sledge reports.
Metairie car chase: Three Jefferson Parish sheriff’s deputies were injured during a pre-dawn car chase through Metairie today. The chase began on Airline Drive and ended with a crash on the I-10 Service Road near Causeway Boulevard.
Pels spiraling: With just 20 games left in the regular season, the Pelicans are in a free fall, Rod Walker writes. They begin a particularly brutal stretch tonight with road games against Portland, Golden State and Sacramento. Ouch! Speaking of ouch, the team has spent the entire season dealing with injuries.
