'I'm not resigning': St. Tammany Parish’s embattled new coroner said a lot in a freewheeling news conference the day he took office, his first public comments since his decades-old indictment on child sexual abuse charges came to light. His main point? He has no plans to resign. Alex Lubben has the story.
Streetcar trademark: All those streetcar paintings and trinkets you love so much could cost a little extra if the Regional Transit Authority gets its way. A new bill introduced in the state Senate this month would give the RTA branding rights to the streetcar image, preventing use of the design without its permission and allowing the agency to create an additional revenue stream. A major ruling: In a decision that surprised the local legal community and victim advocacy groups nationwide, a split Louisiana Supreme Court court ruled 4-3 last week that a pair of state laws creating a “lookback window” for survivors of childhood sex abuse to file legal claims was unconstitutional. Stephanie Riegel has more on what that means for the 550 survivors who claim they were sexually abused by local Roman Catholic clergy.
