I worked in community services working with homeless and vulnerable young people. I’ve seen the impact of families living rough. Every day on the radio I am hearing stories of people doing it really tough with the cost-of-living pressures and rental crisis.
How many times have you walked past someone on the street and wondered how you could help?
If you can knit or crochet, afford to buy a beanie or blanket, or have a sleeping bag you don’t use, we’d love you to join our mission to provide comfort and warmth to those in need.
We’ve partnered with The Salvation Army and Country Women’s Association of WA to keep Perth warm this winter and we’d love your help to spread the kindness.
Want to help? Here are some ways you can make a difference:
- Collect items at work
- Organise a knitting circle
- Popping a beanie or blanket on your shopping list
- Clear out that closet for that sleeping bag you don’t use
If you’re wondering if I’m a knitter – I dabbled in knitting when I was a kid, watching my mum stitch beanies and scarfs together. It’s been a long time since I tried my hand at the knitting sticks so I am hoping that listeners will come onboard and help me out.
Who knows I might even finish my first ever Freo Dockers beanie by the end of the campaign!
