Dear Friend,
Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!
Continued Support for Israel
Ahead of President Biden’s visit to the Middle East, I joined members from both sides of the aisle in the Senate and the House to urge President Biden to deepen and expand the Abraham Accords, and to condemn Iraq’s recent law criminalizing relations with Israel.
We urged the president to further build his administration’s support for peace and agreements with Israel and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco. The Abraham Accords— adopted under the Trump administration — have proven to positively transform the region, increasing Israel’s security and economic opportunities for Arab states. As a member of the Senate Abraham Accords Caucus, I will always stand with Israel and champion peace within the Middle East.

Supporting South Carolina’s Producers
Agribusiness is South Carolina’s largest economic industry, growing the job market and the state’s economy by billions of dollars. According to the USDA, agricultural exports in South Carolina totaled $812 million in 2020. Simply put, agriculture policy is crucial to the success of the Palmetto State.
This is why Senator John Boozman (R-Ark.) and I led 19 of our Senate colleagues in urging the Biden administration to support U.S. producers. President Biden’s trade policies have harmed American producers and jeopardized U.S. security while benefitting our rivals, including China. In our letter to Biden’s nominee for Agricultural Trade Negotiator, we call on the administration to recognize agribusiness in trade agreements to support and prioritize U.S. agriculture exports.

What more could you ask for? Sweet Tea and Financial Literacy
This week, I am highlighting the Palmetto State at large for implementing financial literacy courses for high school seniors. As a kid who was raised in a single-parent household mired in poverty, I’ve got to tell you that the issue of financial literacy is something that I wish I would’ve understood earlier in life.
Financial literacy has so much to do with your future success and your present opportunities. During my time in congress, I have worked to ensure that Americans have access to financial literacy. This incredible initiative will give young people the opportunity to learn responsible financial habits at a time when it matters the most.
