Good morning Valued Subscriber,
It's polling day and although half of Canberrans have already voted, the rest of us will be finding a sausage sandwich and a polling booth to cast our votes. Before you do, there's still time to be best informed. Jasper Lindell reports on the leaders' final pitches for your votes and a bit of last-minute advertising controversy. And he and fellow Assembly reporter Lucy Bladen run their eye over the most likely outcomes tonight when the numbers are counted.
And not to leave sport out of the mix, David Polkinghorne has a guide to what votes could mean for sport and recreation in the capital. If it wasn't an election weekend, we'd of course be a bit more excited by an impending royal visit. Wouldn't we? Megan Doherty finds some people who are very enthusiastic about the King and Queen's visit on Monday and who say royal visits are about "the people, not the politicians". And Sally Pryor looks back on times when the people of Canberra were quite giddy about royal visits. We have plenty more variety than that on offer today. Lanie Tindale meets the grandmother and author who secretly was a sex worker for 20 years, Tim the Yowie Man celebrates what's great about the newsworthy Ginninderra Falls and Steve Evans meets the female army veterans who have a novel way of uniting and learns about their struggles with acceptance in a traditionally male world. After Friday's rain and late storms, today is shaping up nicer with only a medium chance of showers and a top of 26 degrees. Sunday should be even better.
