Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 has fundamentally shifted the defense and security landscape in Europe. Alongside the provision of training and materiel in support of the Ukrainian military the region has been forced to reassess its own military capabilities in light of the renewed and very real threat on its own borders.
European capitals have responded with rapid increases in defense spending, a drive to enhance readiness, and a raft of new capability requirements, however, under-funding over the last decade means that the local defense sector is struggling to keep pace with demand.
