Where's Johnny Jet?

Greetings from Las Vegas! I’m here for The Travel Goods Show—and this time I brought my wife and dad! We're having an incredible time staying in the Tower Suites at the Aria hotel (here's my post on the hotel). We just arrived last night and leave in a few hours but stay tuned for more photos and information about our trip!

If you're following me on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and/or Periscope, you know that over the weekend I was in San Francisco speaking at the Bay Area Travel & Adventure Show. My wife and I went in a couple nights early to take advantage of a gift certificate I'd won at a media event last year. It was for a two-night stay at the lovely Inn at the Presidio. It’s a historic hotel that opened in 2012. Walking in, we were reminded of one of our favorite hotels, Cavallo Point, which is just across the Golden Gate Bridge in Sausalito. It turns out that the Inn at the Presidio used the same designers. We loved the location, free breakfast, wine and cheese, and the fireplaces. However, we did not like their alarm clocks.

That’s because a few hours after going to sleep, we woke up to what we thought was the smoke alarm because we'd left the fireplace on (it was a chilly night). But it turned out to be the hotel’s alarm clock, which I couldn't figure out how to turn off. Needless to say, we didn’t have a very good night's sleep and in the morning, when I walked into the lobby with the clock in my hand, the receptionist cringed and said, "Did it go off in the middle of the night?" It seems like we aren’t the only guests to have this happen to us. Moral of the story: Make sure you check the alarm clock before you go to bed.

A Johnny Jet mix-up
On Saturday,
we drove an hour down to Santa Clara, where I was speaking at the Bay Area Travel & Adventure Show. It was pretty funny checking into the Santa Clara Hilton, which is right across the street from the convention center and Levi’s Stadium where Super Bowl 50 took place. The show organizers put the reservation under "Johnny Jet" and not my real name. So when I handed the hotel clerk my ID, she said she couldn’t find our reservation. I asked her to check under "Johnny Jet," and sure enough it was registered—but she said I needed a photo ID with "Johnny Jet" on it. When my business card wasn’t good enough, I walked over to the edge of the desk and grabbed a poster advertising the Travel Show off the easel. I was featured as one of the speakers and said, "Does this work?" It sure did, and we all had a good chuckle.

35,000 bonus points!
Great news if you don’t yet have the Starwood Preferred Guest Amex card: New Card Members are eligible to receive the highest bonus ever offered with this card: 35,000 Starpoints! This card (which I have and use all the time) is already pretty much every frequent traveler and points junkie’s favorite rewards card. Here’s more on the offer, the card and how you can grab it now.
