State deal to pay $9M for a swamp is on hold. Here's why

By Jessica Williams | Capitol News Bureau Editor

Swamp deal: Louisiana was set to pay nearly $9 million for a swamp owned in part by political donors. But a second appraisal showed the swamp was worth only half that, Sam Karlin reports. The deal has since been halted. Former Wildlife and Fisheries director Jack Montoucet, who has been implicated in a bribery scandal, signed off on the original purchase.

OMV breach: The hack that last month exposed 6 million Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles records could have been far worse, had officials moved more slowly to contain it, James Finn reports. Here's what to know, three weeks after that breach.

Gubernatorial forum: Five of the seven gubernatorial candidates discussed the state's education system at a Saturday forum, with all agreeing that Louisiana should increase student literacy, Tyler Bridges reports. The forum, held at Southern University, was hosted by seven Black statewide church denominations.
