Louisiana State Police chases and crashes in the spotlight in New Orleans

Good morning and thanks for joining us. Here are some of the day's top headlines.

Troop Nola: Louisiana State Police deployed to New Orleans by Gov. Jeff Landry have taken an aggressive approach to their patrols, going after vehicles over traffic infractions including missing license plates, tinted windows and erratic driving. The nearly 100 stops have netted 20 arrests and received praise for the recovery of stolen vehicles and the seizures of guns and drugs. But it's also resulted in five crashes, including one where a bystander was injured, and raised concerns among some officials. John Simerman and Missy Wilkinson examine the new State Police patrols on New Orleans' streets.

Uninsured: With costs soaring, many Louisianians are dropping their homeowners' insurance or finding themselves stuck with policies that will leave them paying out of pocket if disaster strikes. Sam Karlin looks at the danger that poses.

Juneteenth: A celebration marking the end of slavery, Juneteenth observances have become more prominent in recent years. Desiree Stennett traveled to the Whitney Plantation for its annual festival and spoke with attendees who said the holiday is an important acknowledgement of history and resilience.
