State tax credits could sunset under this bill

By Jessica Williams | Capitol News Bureau Editor

Tax giveaways: Louisiana gives away almost $7 billion in tax credits each year, nearly more than the revenue the state collects. But House Bill 641 would eliminate more than 100 of those credits, unless lawmakers vote case-by-case to keep each one alive, Tyler Bridges reports.

Carbon capture: An anti-carbon capture effort has forced pro-industry groups to mobilize support for the controversial projects, Sam Karlin reports. The fight has created unusual alliances and rifts in a state that is ground zero for climate change.

Abuse victims: A bill that would grant relief to victims who kill their abusers has made foes out of two groups that are normally allies: the state District Attorneys association and victims' advocates, James Finn reports. Critics say the bill could have unintended consequences.
