| Oct. 14, 2019 Clouds, showers and a chance of thunderstorms beginning tonight: Did you enjoy the picture-perfect fall weather today after days of damp, chilly, windswept weather? Sorry, it appears to be a one-hit wonder. The precipitation is likely to change to wet snow on Tuesday from central to northern Minnesota before likely changing back to rain later in the day. States like Minnesota honor Native Americans on Indigenous Peoples Day, instead of Columbus: From Minnesota to Vermont, at least five states and Washington, D.C., have done away with Columbus Day celebrations in deference to Native people. Several Minnesota cities, the Twin Cities, began recognizing Indigenous Peoples Day as early as 2014.
Two historic lighthouses on Lake Superior are welcoming new owners: A 34-year-old tech exec from San Francisco bought the Superior Entry Lighthouse in September, sight unseen. A month later, he flew to Duluth to see his property for the first time. Another Lake Superior lighthouse, Split Rock Lighthouse, will have its first new lighthouse keeper in 36 years next month after his predecessor’s retirement this past spring.
