IS YOUR HOME READY FOR THE FIRST DEEP FREEZE? As the chill of winter sets in, summer seems like a distant memory. Blankets are added to our beds, and the heat is turned on to warm our homes. Battling the harsh temperatures of winter can be challenging, but if you take steps to properly winterize your home now, you can save yourself from shivering too much over the next few months. A large part of the winterizing process involves insulating your home against the cold. By simply sealing your home properly and protecting it from air leaks, you will use less energy to heat your home, which equals savings on utility bills. This recent article from the New York Times shares a story of a homeowner in southern New Jersey and the steps she took to get a home inspection. Homeowners are informed that there is no obligation to make any of the changes recommended in an audit, but those who get work done can qualify for low- or no-cost loans, and for state rebates based on how much energy they will save by making the recommended changes.
