Green Marine Europe: towards a maritime industry more respectful of the ocean

To encourage a shift towards more sustainable shipping practices, Surfrider Europe has partnered with Green Marine to launch the Green Marine Europe label, a certification program that will help maritime companies identify and reduce their environmental footprint, while informing consumers of the impact of their goods.

Maritime transport carries 90% of the world's goods. Although this mode of transport is considered as the least polluting form of transport in the world, its Greenhouse Gas emissions could extensively increase by 2050. Surfrider Europe has identified 4 major challenges for the years to come : improve the ships' eco-design, reuce all boat's emissions, prevent container ship accidents and improve the conditions in which ships are dismantled.

Making homemade soap

Many industrial soaps have exfoliating properties thanks to thousands of plastic microbeads invisible to the naked eye. Too small to be filtered, these microbeads end their life in the ocean and are ingested by marine animals. To stop this pollution at the source and at the same time reduce the production of plastic waste, here is a recipe for exfoliating soap with coffee grounds!
