Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
George Stephanopoulos

President Joe Biden said New York Governor Andrew Cuomo should resign if an investigation confirms the multiple sexual harassment allegations made against him by former aides.

“I know you said you want the investigation to continue,” ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos told Biden in an ABC News interview airing this week. “If the investigation confirms the claims of the women, should he resign?”

“Yes,” Biden replied. “I think he’ll probably end up being prosecuted, too.”

That is just one of many newsworthy sound bites and clips to come out of Stephanopoulos's big sit-down with the president. He also got Biden talking about the border crisis, claiming he told Vladimir Putin to his face that he has no soul, and got him mocking anti-vaxxers.

He also talked to Biden about the future of the filibuster, which the president says he's in favor of "reforming."

With the dearth of press conferences and interviews, it's a win for ABC and Stephanopoulos to get so much news out of Biden answers.

MEDIA LOSER:
Sharon Osbourne

The Talk co-host Sharon Osbourne lashed out at her show and network over the episode that led to a viral meltdown that has forced the show into a (for now) temporary hiatus.

On Tuesday’s edition of Entertainment Tonight, Osbourne revealed a pact that she and co-hosts Sheryl Underwood, Elaine Welteroth, Carrie Ann Inaba (absent during Osborne’s meltdown), and Amanda Kloots made never to surprise each other, following a February episode in which Inaba was forced to blindside Welteroth with an insensitive and awkward question.

Osbourne said that’s why she felt betrayed when her co-hosts pressed her about defending Piers Morgan, and specifically with regard to the charges of racism leveled against him.

“And I went, like, how dare you all do this to me! I’m your sacrificial lamb!” Osbourne said.

She went on to say that her anger is reserved for CBS executives, whom she claims were behind the “blindside,” and that it was she who requested the investigation.

Trying to solve a meltdown with a meltdown seems like a not good plan.

The A-Block

Atlanta, Georgia

Cherokee City Sheriff Frank Reynolds held a press conference Wednesday discussing the suspect who allegedly carried out a massacre at three spas in Atlanta, killing eight, including six Asian women. The sheriff indicated the suspect could possibly have a “sexual addiction” and may have visited the targeted venues before.

Police said Robert Aaron Long was arrested after carrying out shootings at three massage parlors in the suburbs of Atlanta on Tuesday.

In the immediate aftermath of the horrific attack, there was early speculation from MSNBC and other outlets connecting the crime to "rhetoric of the Republican party."

However, the police offered no confirmation that any rhetoric was an influence to the crime at this point.

“[Long] made indicators that he has some issues, potentially sexual addiction, and may have frequented some of these places in the past,” Sheriff Reynolds said.

When the conference opened up to questions, Reynolds was asked if the attack was racially motivated.

“It is still early, but the indicators right now are it may not be,” he answered. “It may be targets of opportunity. Again, we believe that he frequented these places in the past and that may have been lashing out.”

Reynolds added that based on initial interviews with Long, racial bias “did not appear to be the motive.” He also reminded the press that it is still very early in the investigation to be discussing motive. One can surmise that also means it's pretty early to be assigning blame for the murders to political opponents.

Settled: Biden Will Not Be Killing His Dog

President Joe Biden settled a burning question in the mind of at least one member of the media, making it clear that he will not be euthanizing First Dog Major Biden any time soon.

“He’s a sweet dog, 85 percent of the people there love him, he just all he does is lick them and wag his tail,” said Biden of his pup.
