Steve Jobs made uncannily accurate predictions of AI several decades ago
| Late Apple CEO speculated on capabilities of AI almost 40 years ago
| Steve Jobs was known for being a visionary in many areas, and a recently resurfaced clip shows him speculating about the potential for generative AI all the way back in 1985. Long before AI programs like ChatGPT were anything near a reality, Jobs was predicting an "interactive client" that could help students not only read the words of famous philosopher Aristotle, but also chat to them as Aristotle. It's a vision that seems more prescient than ever as Apple gears up for its launch of Apple Intelligence later this year. The new capabilities include writing assistance, image creation and editing, and improvements to the functioning of Siri. | |

Go back to the '80s with Fiio's charming Walkman reboot
| See your cassettes in all their glory with this transparent device
| Anyone of us who grew up in the pre-digital music days will surely have a fondness for a particular type of retro audio experience. And Fiio is here to serve that demographic with its rebooted Walkman known as the CP13. There's no Bluetooth, no onboard storage, and no track skipping -- just a place to put your cassette and the fast-forward/rewind buttons. Previous versions of this device featured solid colors, but the latest version is a gloriously transparent ode to the cassette. With its clear front, you can see the cassette wheels spinning as you listen. The newer version also offers a built-in rechargeable battery and a USB-C port in a nod to modern conveniences. | |

Image: James Pardon/Bad Wolf/BBC Studios | Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan is coming to Doctor Who
| She'll be joining Ncuti Gatwa's 15th Doctor in Christmas special
| Doctor Who fans always look forward to the show's Christmas specials, which are fun adventures with notable guest stars. This year's special will include Nicola Coughlan of Bridgerton and Derry Girls fame. She'll be joining Ncuti Gatwa in the TARDIS this winter, and the writer of the upcoming special, Steven Moffat, has spoken about her role. Former showrunner Moffat spilled the beans on her appearance to Ireland AM, saying, "Nicola is wonderful in it, she will break your heart. I'm not allowed to say anything about it. At least I think I'm not allowed to say anything about it, so I'll just shut up". | |

You really need to shut your brain off to enjoy The First Descendant | The gameplay is fun, but the setup is a 'barrage of nonsense'
| Sometimes you want a game that's a sprawling, complex epic full of meaningful decisions and ethical quandaries. And sometimes you want to suspend every thought in your head and just shoot some things. The First Descendant falls firmly into the second camp, according to our gaming editor, Giovanni Colantonio. The Nexon-developed looter shooter is full of action, with tight gameplay and fun design elements. But the stats are baffling and the narrative is nonsensical. "My mistake was that I was trying to put an ounce of critical thought in while I played," Colantonio writes. "In reality, I’d need to virtually shut my entire brain off to enjoy it." | |
