Dear reader

The DUP MP Sammy Wilson is facing fresh criticism after a photograph on social media apparently showed him without a face mask on a London Underground train.

The East Antrim representative explained that he had removed his mask in order to take a phone call and stressed that he had been wearing it while flying to London from Belfast,in the airport and before and during his time on the train.

Individuals without face masks in London can be denied travel or receive a minimum £200 fine.

Thursday also brought news of more Covid-19 outbreaks among Northern Ireland healthcare staff.

First, it was revealed that 10 ambulance staff based at Craigavon station had tested positive for coronavirus. In a statement, the Northern Ireland Ambulance service said those infected had “attended a social event outside of work”. This was believed to have been a golf trip.

Meanwhile in the North West at Londonderry’s Altnagelvin Hospital, three staff on a stroke ward have tested positive for the virus.

Thursday was another day of significant new Covid-19 cases. Another 189 positive tests were recorded in the previous 24 hours, although there have been no new deaths recorded.

Enjoy your evening
