Stocks try to halt slide after decimating week on Wall Street

U.S. equity futures are pointing to a higher open in an attempt to halt the biggest plunge in stocks since the financial crisis.The major futures indexes are indicating a gain of 1 percent, or a gain of more than 200 Dow points, when trading begins on Wall Street.
