Quick tip of the day

Before the world of unlimited data, we jumped at the opportunity to tap into free Wi-Fi to avoid overage charges. Now, most of us have unlimited plans, but our phones still search for an open Wi-Fi connection to save data when possible.

The problem is weak Wi-Fi slows you down and puts you at risk if you’re connecting to an unsecured or untrustworthy network.

Instead of going through menus, ask Siri or Google Assistant to do it for you. A simple “Hey Siri, turn off my Wi-Fi” will do the trick.

Speaking of Siri, tap or click for some of my favorite uses.

AND FINALLY ...

Imagine a rental car company steals their car back from you. This just happened to Twitter user Tarikh Campbell, who says his rental car disappeared from right outside his childhood home one night. In a long and twisty story, he investigated the disappearance.

Campbell says the rental car company, Avis, told him to file a police report ... but there was no impound order. Representatives said he was liable for a $20,000 car — plus, they charged him the full price and late fees. Only after the story went viral did Avis waive the fees.

To make a long story short: Be very careful about the companies you do business with! You never know when you’ll be thrown into a mystery novel. 🕵️
