Maine public university students won’t return to campus after Thanksgiving
  • The University of Maine System released its reopening plans for the fall semester on Wednesday, with measures aimed at preventing the spread of the coronavirus as students return to the campuses they left in March.

This iconic 10-story Portland garage is coming down 

  • Maine Medical Center's employee parking garage has been a massive concrete monument to Brutalist efficiency on the edge of downtown since 1972. But it’s coming down as the hospital continues to sprawl. The area has been a construction site for decades, said one neighbor, who fears the flavor of her neighborhood has slowly eroded.

Most waste meant for shuttered Hampden plant will temporarily go to Orrington incinerator
  • Meanwhile, the company behind the shuttered Hampden plant is fielding inquiries from a number of companies that have expressed interest in buying a stake in and restarting the facility.

This cat stowed away on a military cargo plane. Now some humans are trying to help it get home.

  • A cat with an apparent case of wanderlust — or that was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time — managed to hitch a ride on a military flight that landed at Bangor International Airport Tuesday night. Airport staff are not even sure where the cat — a friendly gray-and-white male — boarded the Boeing C-17 Globemaster III cargo plane.

“I knew I would see a school of fish but I had no idea I would see that. It’s mesmerizing to me,” Dr. Matt Hanna of Bath, who filmed the video off Small Point in Phippsburg, said. “The way the fish elude the seals is pretty remarkable."
