Yoga for strength

Dear Yogi,

Strength training is booming! From CrossFit and weightlifting to outdoor, functional movement-based training, it's clear that building strength is a top priority for many.

Strength training enhances bone density, joint stability, and resting metabolic rate (RMR), while also helping to prevent injuries. Additionally, it positively impacts mental health by reducing anxiety, depression, and pain intensity, and improving sleep, confidence, self-esteem, and resilience.

But does yoga count as strength training? The short answer is… it depends!

With asanas such as Warrior poses, Planks, arm balances, and inversions, we are effectively engaging in “weight training” as we support our own body weight against gravity.

Read on to discover ways to build strength through yoga and explore a mix of techniques in our classes.
