Andrea Partridge's Challenging Case (with many insights for OEFT students)
Below is some very useful correspondence between Andrea Partridge, one of our diligent OEFT students, and myself. My comments are in bold.
Hi Gary,
I was doing a session on RayJean, one of my clients. She is also the client with the sore feet I e-mailed you about. That session had lead us to anger issues with her mother and with us clearing some events.
RayJean and I have been swapping sessions for a while and we had done some deep work the previous day. Her issue of anger towards her husband led back to not getting the attention she needed as a young child from her dad. The only way she would get attention would be by being sick. Excellent insight.
RayJean has lots of health issues and it was quite a revelation that her subconscious mind might be causing this to get her what she needs. She seems to crave the love from her husband that she didn't get from her father, also not getting it making her feel the same abandonment and loneliness she felt growing up.
We worked on three events with her dad addressing abandonment, loneliness, pain and anger, age 3, 5 and 15. I did lots of testing and checked for different aspects. More good insights.
Following the session she was in a lot of pain (10 out of 10) and unable to sleep, 2 of her main symptoms. The main pain was yet again in her feet. This is evidence that a BIG ONE (or more) still remains. Perhaps it is (1) something traumatic she has repressed or (2) a guilt episode she doesn’t want to look at or (3) an element of martyrdom (see how someone, or the world, has treated me. Look at what you/they did to me) or (4) she doesn’t want to “step forward” in life because of an imagined consequence or… or… or.
I started off focusing on symptoms of foot pain only inviting The Unseen Therapist straight away. That did not help at all. Always remember, we are all far more powerful than we think. We can literally cause our ailments AND can stop them from healing. Unseen Therapist will not and cannot override our desires to keep our ailments. This is where the artistic use of OEFT can be so valuable. By reframing and helping the client (including ourselves) we gently, and willingly, put more on the table for Unseen Therapist to handle. I thought it might take the edge off or lead us somewhere. I checked all the events and aspects from last session which all seemed clear. No change in foot pain at all and RayJean starting to cry. I went back to check if there were any anger issues with her mum left. All anger was gone and a new aspect appeared all while pain was getting worse and RayJean crying more and getting more distressed. I kept inviting The Unseen Therapist, reassuring her, telling her that she is safe, which didn't seem to make a difference. Thus more evidence of a stubborn, hidden issue for which she has imagined benefits to keep.
I did another few minutes with her crying and me wondering why things weren't getting any better at all. In all my sessions I haven't had a reaction like that. With traditional tapping, yes but not with OEFT. So I explored a bit more while eyes closed, loving moment and being connected to The Unseen Therapist which led us the time RayJean was born and the utter disappointment of her mum having girl number 4 which is a total disappointment and 'disaster' in her culture 78 years ago. I stayed with RayJean in that scene of her being held by her mum just after birth and The Unseen Therapist being there healing that scene and her feelings but the sobbing and pain got worse. Perhaps this experience of “getting worse” is a big clue that you are onto something. This may lead to “I’m not lovable” and, depending on the client, can be a MAJOR issue behind many ailments.
I guided her to put everything in a box for save keeping and sending it to another planet with The Unseen Therapist having a golden healing blanket around it and her being able to come back to it when she is ready taking one piece out at a time. But being save at the moment. This is how we ended the session.
We discussed how she would cope now with her knowing that walking around and eating something would help. I also recorded your Unseen Therapist session with the red balls representing pain in Maite session 1, minute 20 and sent it to her suggesting for her to listen to this if she feels led to it. She had a footbath, but still pain. I did some surrogate work for her. She felt better the next day saying she had cleared some anger and guilt and was burping a lot. Good signs.
I had also told her she could get in touch with me if she needed more help although, I did what I could and things didn't improve so I feel she just had to cope.
Any feedback or suggestions regarding what I could have done differently or how you would have done things would very much be appreciated. Has this happened to you before, (Sure) a client unable to get better but distressed and crying? I believed in the power of The Unseen Therapist or I might have pulled back a bit earlier. Nothing is too big for Her... except powerful clients who need to retain their ailments. We are as powerful as The Unseen Therapist. Maybe she knows RayJean can deal with this (it didn't look like it though) and it is part of the way she needs to heal? I believe in Unseen Therapist being much gentler though.
Try an experiment with our latest version of “See this, do that” (now called “Relive this, Embrace that and listen” – see Webinar 85). This time, rather than aiming the repetitions at a specific event, aim them at the symptom (sore feet). Leave plenty of time during “Embrace that and listen” for her to listen for clues behind the issue. Do it along with her and ask for clues yourself. Keep at it. Compare notes and proceed accordingly. This can be an excellent method of direct communication with The Unseen Therapist (another version of the TV Guidance Channel Technique).
Thanks Gary, Andrea
