Editor's Picks Educational outcomes among first-year residents in programs governed by standard ACGME duty-hour polices did not differ from those in programs with more flexible policies, according to the results of the Individualized Comparative Effectiveness of Models Optimizing Patient Safety and Resident Education (iCOMPARE) trial recently published in The New England Journal of Medicine. The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio implemented mock site visits beginning in 2010, when the GME office recognized that many of its program directors, program coordinators, and residents had never participated in a site visit/internal review due to very long cycle lengths. Following a Clinical Learning Environment Review (CLER) site visit, a report will arrive in your DIO’s email as a PDF attachment with pages numbering in the double digits. It will have an opening and closing statement, and in between, the findings will be broken down by the six focus areas: patient safety, quality improvement, transitions of care, supervision, professionalism, and well-being.
