Scotty Canezaro continues, one of several factors being examined would be whether the dangers inherent to night flights, especially low visibility, played a role, several experts said. The Baton Rouge police helicopter crashed March 26 in a rural cane field near Port Allen with few sources of light on the ground to serve as visual cues to a pilot. Mechanical issues, pilot error and weather conditions, among other factors, could have contributed to the crash, several pilots interviewed by The Advocate said. East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Deputy Nick Tullier died last year from injuries sustained in a 2016 shooting ambush of local law enforcement officers. But his legacy lives on. His handicap-accessible van was donated Friday to the family of a Texas motorcycle officer in need of a specially equipped vehicle. “We knew we wanted to give it to a blue family," said Tullier’s father, James. A crumbling mobile home sitting on the side of the road would seem to be an unlikely candidate to become a social media attraction. But, of course, nothing should surprise us anymore.
