| Editor's Picks A study recently published in the Journal of Graduate Medical Education found that medical students' personal exposure to role models in medical school was a significant predictor of their choice of specialty for residency. The program evaluation committee (PEC) must be composed of at least two program faculty members and should include at least one resident (unless there are currently no trainees in the program). The committee must have a written description of its responsibilities. An ideal chief resident may possess the highest level of competency, humbleness, charisma, empathy, integrity, mindfulness, approachability, and transparency. They are key stakeholders within the residency program and can make or break the academic year. These individuals tend to be the finest of the residency class, respected by colleagues and hand-chosen by department personnel. As program coordinators begin to gear up for the next academic year, the process of choosing and training the incoming leadership team is lurking around the corner. So how do we coordinators contribute to the process and forge relationships with our newly named chief residents to ensure a prosperous academic year? Read more. Marketing Spotlight The Graduate Medical Education Program Management Workbook is an educational tool for coordinators and GME professionals responsible for managing a GME training program. This workbook includes knowledge application questions grouped by topic areas, listings of commonly used acronyms, and helpful GME resources. Program coordinators can use this workbook to create a self-learning plan, to aid in the creation of a procedural manual for their offices, to identify areas for personal and program improvement, and to prepare for ACGME continuous accreditation through education. Although created for the individual coordinator, this tool can also be purchased and distributed by GME offices as a way to support the education of their program managers and staff.
