Study shows South Carolinians buying more local food

A study by USC economic researcher Joseph Von Nessen found that S.C. residents bought $176.3 million more in local food in 2018 than in 2010. That jump increased economic activity in the state by $273.5 million.

USDA invests $3M in S.C. telemedicine and distance learning

The United State Department of Agriculture is investing $3 million in grant funding to help connect rural residents to telemedicine care and distance learning opportunities across the Palmetto State.

S.C. part of 28-state data breach settlement

The settlement resolves an investigation of a data breach that affected 6.1 million patients, including 400,903 in South Carolina. Community Health Systems Inc. must make a $5 million payment to the states involved and implement a security program. 

Seismic testing off S.C. coast likely halted for years

A lawsuit filed in 2018 opposing seismic air gun surveys off the state’s coast as a precursor to oil and drilling exploration was dismissed by a federal judge, who said a deadline for permits would pass before a trial would be held.
