Study: Switch to automation could leave some behind

An analysis of 3 cities, including Columbia, by the African American Mayors Association found that the automation of manufacturing jobs will cause minority workers to lose jobs at a faster rate than white workers. The study called on mayors to help prepare local workforces.

Change in state law affects boat registration procedure

A change in the state law now requires registration and property taxes be paid on boats annually, just like motor vehicles. Previously, taxes were paid every three years. The new law will go into effect in January.

Duke Energy gifts $500,000 to Unity Park

Duke Energy has awarded a $500,000 grant to Greenville’s Unity Park to enhance and protect natural wetlands. The project will include the Duke Energy Outdoor Classroom as part of an ADA-accessible boardwalk.
