The Style Invitational

Dear Loser, Aspiring Loser or General Hanger-On:

Three li'l ol' lines. Seventeen li'l ol' syllables. One li'l ol' pun. Lay it on us -- or lay 25 of them on us -- in this week's Style Invitational haiku contest.

And we have the winning alternative facts about how various products or their names came to be: Did you know, for example, that "Kleenex" comes from the Swedish word for shirt sleeve? Well, that's what it said on the shows -- good enough for us. Also accounted for: Peeps, Brazilian waxes, T-shirt cannons, even Your Mama jokes.

In my supplementary column, The Style Conversational, I dig up Invite haiku featuring ... yes, him. From as far back as 2000. Especially if you think you might enter this week, check out the Convo, since it gives various examples of what I'm going to count as a pun.
