2022 Top 500 countdown: Restaurants ranked No. 50 – No. 1

Every year, Nation’s Restaurant News ranks the largest restaurant chains by domestic systemwide sales, giving a detailed look at the biggest players in the industry.

The triplet monsters of labor, inflation and supply chain reared their heads and suffocated momentum for many restaurants. Traffic still isn’t back to pre-pandemic levels, and some of the sales growth is a mirage, reflecting price hikes that chains were forced to make. Subway moves away from its traditional service model with new curated sandwiches

The infinite customization that has been its hallmark is being de-emphasized to improve throughput and guest satisfaction.

Subway, which arguably created the infinitely customizable assembly-line model that dominates fast-casual dining, is de-emphasizing that service style with the launch today of a dozen curated sandwiches that are now front-and-center on the quick-service sandwich chain’s  menu. The new Subway Series line of sandwiches offers sandwiches with broad appeal that require minimal decision-making on the part of customers. The company says it’s the biggest menu change in its more than 60-year history.

Georgia Chick-fil-A sued by transgender worker over homophobic comments, illegal firing

Aaron White alleges that the franchise owner did nothing to stop the harassment.

Aaron White was training as director of operations at a Decatur, GA. Chick-fil-A when she was subjected to homophobic comments and sexual harassment that resulted in her termination, according to a lawsuit. White, who identifies as a woman, alleges that on her first day of training, a fellow employee sexually harassed her with lewd and inappropriate comments.
