As summer arrived, Grades of Green waved goodbye to the 2022-2023 school year with student celebrations, Eco-Grant awards, podcasts, the launch of a new Eco-Toolkit!
GATE Academy Culmination
Sustain-a-thon Celebration

On June 3rd, the Inglewood Unified School District's GATE Academy Culmination event took place, showcasing the remarkable environmental projects that students in 1st to 12th grade had been diligently working on throughout the school year. Students from several IUSD schools presented their unique projects that used Grade of Green's Eco-Toolkits to bring their innovative ideas and efforts to life.

And for the cherry on top, we awarded this year's recipient of the prestigious $1,000 SparQ Grant, enlightened by LumenSparQ, to Oak Street Elementary for their outstanding Lunchtime Sorting project.

On June 4th, Subaru Pacific hosted our first SOAR Eco-Innovation Academy Sustain-a-thon where the students presented their innovative sustainability plans they completed over the school year. Grades of Green staff, board members, and friends came together to celebrate our students and their projects in collaboration with partners such as Lazy Acres, West Basin Municipal Water District, Veggie Grill, and Paneros. We were highly impressed by our students' forward-thinking ideas and can't wait to see what next year's SOAR students will develop and implement in their communities.

Thanks to our partners for supporting our SOAR students with their ambitious ideas and for prioritizing sustainability in their missions!

Grades of Green RISE student, Cordelia, recently spoke on the HomeGreenHomes podcast where she explored the many advantages of composting and its profound environmental impact. She discussed how composting aids in curbing greenhouse gas emissions and reducing the strain on landfill capacity. Cordelia also shared tips on composting practices, emphasizing the significance of incorporating more brown waste and identifying the most suitable composting method for every individual’s lifestyle.
