WEB-FIRST REVIEWS OF BOOKS AND MEDIA
Nobody's Magic Poet and essayist Destiny O. Birdsong's fiction debut, Nobody's Magic, is one of this month's starred selections. "Birdsong portrays her main characters as individuals with their own heart and soul, searching for family, love, acceptance, and independence." Tara M. Stringfellow's debut novel Memphis is another starred fiction selection. "Stringfellow has crafted a rich tapestry of women’s familial relationships. Occasionally, she may restrain her characters emotionally, which flattens their dimensionality, but overall this is a well-written debut by an author worth watching in years to come." And Free Love, by Windham-Campbell Prize winner Tessa Hadley, is another starred fiction title. "Hadley paints an evocative picture of the free-loving, bell-bottomed, pot-smoking, anti-establishment generation. With its Sixties vibe, vivid characters, and twisty plot, this book is a winner."
